Interview with Wachira New Sittikong from La Miette La Mai Thai Bistro:
Tell us about your Northborough based restaurant?
We are a Thai Fusion Restaurant that provides a new “LM” experience! We offer true Thai cuisine, sushi, French Asian fusion dishes and desserts, and Thai inspired cocktails. We also offer a bar & lounge, with live music and amazing culinary events such as wine dinners, whiskey pairings, cooking demonstrations and much more. We also do events, parties and large catering both in and out of house.
How Long Have You Been In Business:
20 years as Yoong Tong Thai Restaurant, 1 year for La Miette La Mai Thai Bistro.
What makes you different from other companies?
We are a small local family owned business that keeps things fresh, organic and local in all aspects of our business, not just our food! We boast our “scratch kitchen” and we make everything fresh from scratch! We have new exciting energy with modern ideas and events that make us stand differently. We also support many, many hyper local small family owned businesses such as farms, breweries, boutique stores and talent. We humbly and truly believe in supporting local causes, charities, schools and organizations!
What are some things you value as a business owner?
Family, nothing is stronger than family bond. Not just ours but we call all those who step through the door our family!
What kinds of things do you want to hear from clients or customers?
“Feels like home!”, “Wow! We had such a fun experience!”, “Everything tastes so fresh!”
How did you get started?
Yoong Tong Thai Restaurant started in 2000, for over 20 years we have been providing an amazing Thai experience to the Northborough area and towns around. I started working at the restaurant when I was 11 years old. Finding my passion and love for Hospitality and Culinary arts. Pursuing my passion, I graduated from Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts Institute and worked at amazing 5 star 5 diamond kitchens in the city. Ending in the Four Seasons Hotel Banquet Kitchens.
In 2020 my family decided to sell our family restaurant due to covid. I was heartbroken and was like “definitely not”! So building a team with my business partners and family we rebranded our beloved restaurant into a new chapter and rebrand called La Miette La Mai Thai Bistro.
What’s the biggest factor that has helped you achieve success?
Staying true to family, love & passion. It’s not about the business or sales but rather an impact and love and making a difference, maybe not a big difference but a small step is better than no steps!
What is the best advice you can give to others?
It’s all about family!
If you could start all over again, what would you do differently?
Nothing.
At the end of the day, what puts a smile on your face?
Honestly, the smiles on our guests who we call family faces! Truly making people happy with what we do!
Describe a way that your business helps your community in a positive way? Why is this important to you?
Honestly and truthfully everything we do, we do it for our community! Everyone in town wanted a fun, exciting and modern/chic place to hang out! We also didn’t want to let down our customers of 20 years so continuing the baton was a must for us! We donate to local causes, charities, schools and organizations with all of our hearts! We sponsor Algonquin Regional High School teams, Northborough/Southborough Baseball & Softball clubs, New England Football club and many more! We are not just a “restaurant” but rather a communal place where everyone comes to have fun with our food, music, events and experiences! This is so important to us because the community has supported us 100% of the way for over 20 years and this is the way we would love to pay back our respects and love of our amazing community!
We need your help to nominate businesses that go above and beyond to support the community and others in need.
Our goal is to showcase these individuals by offering them a collaborative experience by featuring their story in our “What Inspires Us” campaign.
Help us promote inspiring stories for others in our network to see!
